Frequently Asked Questions

Practical answers to common questions about planning and enjoying a Fish Dundee boat hire.

Do I need a boat licence?

No. A recreational boat licence is not required in the Northern Territory. Fish Dundee provides a comprehensive safety briefing and boat familiarisation before departure.

Is fuel included?

Your boat departs with a full tank. Fuel used during the hire is paid by the customer when the boat is returned and refuelled at the Dundee fuel facility.

Can I hire a boat if I've never been to Dundee Beach?

Yes. The onboard GPS includes safe navigation trails and areas to avoid, and the local briefing covers conditions, operating areas and practical advice.

Can I bring my own fishing gear?

Yes. Bringing your own rods, reels, tackle, lures and bait is standard. Fishing gear hire may also be available.

What happens if the weather changes?

Boating decisions are guided by the Fish Dundee Weather & Operating Policy. Conditions are discussed before departure, and safety always comes first.

Where do we meet?

Meet the Fish Dundee team opposite the Dundee Beach boat ramp. A reminder email and meeting map are provided before your hire.

Can children come on board?

Yes. Children are welcome, and suitable lifejackets are available. Please provide children's approximate weights when booking so the correct equipment can be prepared.

Can dogs come on board?

Dogs may be welcome on suitable hires, but please ask first—some dogs are better deckhands than others, and we need to make sure the boat, crew and conditions are appropriate.

What happens if accidental damage occurs during my hire?

A security deposit applies, and the boats are insured. Full responsibilities and procedures are set out in the Booking Conditions.

Can I book a boat for several days?

Yes. Multi-day hires are available and often provide better value for visitors planning a longer Dundee Beach fishing stay.

What fish can I keep?

All anglers must follow current Northern Territory size, possession and seasonal rules. The NT Fishing Mate app is the easiest way to check current regulations.

Where can I operate the boat?

The 4.6m boat may operate up to 1 nautical mile offshore. The 6m centre console may operate up to 15 nautical miles offshore, subject to conditions and the hire agreement.
